Must See And Do In Egypt

Most Popular Places and Activities to Explore in Egypt.

Pyramids of Giza

The pyramids must unarguably be your first stop in Egypt. The pyramids of Giza, located on the Giza plateau and are the last seven wonders of the ancient world, undeniably make one of the most famous landmarks in the world.

A visit to the great pyramids (also known as the pyramids of Khufu) usually tops the list for most tourists. The pyramids are 138 meters tall and guarded by a limestone sphinx structure. Tourists can visit the pyramids via the robber's tunnel but must ensure to maintain decorum.

What's interesting about the pyramids is that they are the only wonder of having remained intact over the last thousand years. They are often referred to as the jewels of Egypt and single-handedly make the country a must-visit.

Abu Simbel Temple

The Abu Simbel Temple is possibly one of the most picturesque and jaw-dropping temples in all of Egypt. It has a unique huge rock-cut façade and luxuriously decorated interiors. It is guarded by the four colossal statues of the pharaoh. The rock impressions of the king and queen sitting and overlooking the

mountains are an iconic site and a famous tourist spot in ancient Egypt.

The Abu Simbel Temple was constructed in honor of the great Ramses II, who was known to be a massive architectural fanatic. Resources claim that the entire temple was purposely structured so that the sun's rays would orient twice a year (on the date of Ramsey II's ascension to the throne and one on his birthday). However, the temple had to be relocated in the 1960s to save it from disappearing from the increasing water of the Aswan dam.

Abu Simbel is an awe-inspiring temple, providing spectacular views and rich history lessons. If you plan to visit Egypt, keep Abu Simbel on your list of must-see places.

Aswan and Philae Temple

Aswan, set on the river Nile, is perhaps one of Egypt's most awe-inspiring and breathtaking towns. It is a peaceful place to have a relaxing holiday with your friends, family, or yourself.

In ancient Egypt, Aswan was known as Swenette and was used to house the stone quarries that supplied materials to build the great pyramids. Visiting the Aswan town and the Philae temple is an unmatchable experience. The place is overflowing with markets and restaurants making it a highlight for most visitors. And not to forget, the cuisine is impeccable. You must also consider exploring the Elephantine and Kitchener Islands and later head out to explore Philae Temple via boat.

Also, while you are in Aswan, make sure to take a felucca along the Nile. The views are scenic, with camels and goats walking along the riverbank. Besides, cruising through the Nile is quite romantic and one of the most famous ways to see most of Egypt's ancient sites.

Make sure to spend at least 5-6 days in Aswan to be able to explore all worthy sites fully. Try not to rush your stay since Aswan has a lot to offer.

South Sinai's Beach

Egypt's South Sinai region, located on the Sinai Peninsula, shelters a few of the most unique and beautiful beaches in all countries. The South Sinai region has a beach for each type of visitor.

If you budget is tight, consider visiting Dhaba. It is a low-key beach with several activities, adventures, and desert excursions. It is famous for its

budget-friendly packages and deals for its lagoon areas. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are among the top-rated activities.

Sharm el-Sheikh is a European-style town, it consists of several luxury hotels, resorts, international restaurants, and lots of entertainment options. It is a

traveler-favorite spot in Egypt that caters to families, couples, and solo visitors looking for a week or two long sun-and-sand vacations.

You can also check out bamboo hut retreats, located in the middle of the port town of Nuweiba and bordered by the town of Taba. These hut retreats offer a complete getaway from the busy city and the basic beach life.

Islamic Cairo

The city of Citadels, more commonly known as Islamic Cairo, is a must-visit when in Egypt. It consists of several mosques, including Sultan Hassan Mosque, Alabaster Mosque, Al-Hakim Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque, and many others.

Islamic Cairo could be an excellent learning experience for travelers looking to explore the Egyptian culture and religion.

Explore the streets of Khan el-Khalil, shop at ridiculously inexpensive rates, and take a tour of the Citadel. You will surely not be disappointed.

Filled with remarkable landscapes and landmarks, Egypt is a sight for sore eyes. It is a mystical land offering romance and the lure of the ancient era of travel.
