Must See And Do India

Most Popular Places and Activities to Explore in India

The Taj Mahal

History, beauty, and extravagance are all blended together - that is the Taj Mahal. The arches, minarets, black calligraphy, and the onion-shaped dome have been put together immaculately to produce a mausoleum so beautiful. You could gaze into the pure white marble and get lost in a whole new world of your own. A perfect time to visit the Taj Mahal is at dusk or dawn.

The Red Fort

One more work of architecture that you could marvel at is the Red Fort in New Delhi. As with the Taj Mahal, this is a symbol of Mughal power. The entire fort

covers an area of about two square kilometres and is surrounded by a large moat. The impressive parts of this fort are its two gates - the Lahore gate, which is the main entrance to the fort, and the elaborately decorated Delhi gate which used to be used for ceremonial processions only.

Mumbai: The Gateway of India

The Gateway of India has great historical significance because it was built in 1911 to commemorate the arrival of King George V and his wife, Queen Mary into India. Apart from that, this Gateway also saw a rather depressed procession of British soldiers when India got its independence. The structure is built entirely of yellow basalt and concrete, with an Indo-Saracenic design, the archway of which provides a jaw-dropping backdrop that is popular among locals and tourists alike.

The Beaches of Goa

Let’s now go on to have some fun at the beautiful beaches of Goa. There are different beaches for all your moods. If you feel like looking for some peace and quiet, Agonda Beach is a good option, while Calangute Beach is best suited if you’re comfortable with crowds. The beaches of Mandrem, Morjim, and Ashwem are perfect for luxury. These beaches have posh resorts, spas for you to relax, and yoga getaways to soothe your senses. Apart from taking a break at all these different beaches, you must also visit the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, you’ll see animals and birds of every kind - monkeys, deer, elephants, black panthers, tigers, leopards, and around 200 species of birds throng the place.

Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary

This park and sanctuary were built in 1934 by British engineers. Their idea was to build a lake through which water would be provided to the city of Madurai. The park and wildlife sanctuary are now home to numerous species of animals including wild boars, otters, macaques, and various Bengal tigers.

Agra Fort

More history, more extravagance, more design. The Agra Fort was built in 1565 as a military structure. The fort is located a few kilometres away from the Taj Mahal and has a different significance for each part. For instance, the fort is entered through the Amar Singh Gate with the lower outer wall and dogleg design built to confuse attackers. Likewise, the largest private residence in the complex is the interlinked sandstone buildings of Akbari Mahal and Jahangiri Mahal.
